Day 35

9/06/09

Today's workout: 10 Minute Trainer

Yoga Flex
Cardio
Total Body

I was able to workout at my Fiance's house for this workout. It was an air conditioned room too so I was able to push myself harder because of the cold air blowing around me.

Great workout, and thankfully i scheduled this one the way i did because i only had to change the CD once. That left me with a lot less down time in between workouts.

On a side note:
Cravings somtimes can be a pain in the neck. I was craving sugar today hard-core; though i managed not to have any "sweets", i opted for fresh grilled pinapple with dinner instead.

I know why i was craving the sugar though. It was because yesterday i was couch bound with a headache and absolutely no energy at all. Today i was up with the sun, ready to go full speed into my day. We went to Church, breakfast, then i layed out on the patio to catch some rays and read a good book. Afterwards i went grocery shopping, prepared the steak for marination and i worked out. Although, i was eating the healthy stuff, my body was craving the more intense sugar; the instant gratification sugar.. the not-so-complex sugars.

After dinner, and relaxing by the bon fire with my Fiance', i sat down to read the local town magazine. Ironically there was an article called Nutrition 101 and this month's topic : SUGAR

In order for your body to get a healthy dose of long-lasting energy you need to eat more complex sugars (or carbohydrates *gasp*) such as vegetables, whole grain breads, oatmeal, legumes, brown rice and wheat pasta. Milk, believe it or not, has a lot of sugar in it. So even though sugar is an important source of carbs, is the body's main energy supply, if you consume too much of it you are at risk for unhealthy weight gain and even diabetes.

So if you are working out and still having a can of soda with every meal, you are being counter productive. Drink water instead, and if water doesn't "do it" for you, find a healthy alternative. I don't advocate diet drinks, because i feel that pumping man-made chemicals like aspertame into our bodies is going to have a negative impact on us humans some how. It's just a matter of when and what. So be smart about your choices in beverages if you can't stomach water. Just because the item says DIET does not neccessarily mean that it's good for you.

The true definition of the word DIET is actually "food or drink in general". We have morphed the word to be used as a restrictive word. Meaning when we hear or see the word DIET we associate that with limitations, or restricting our food and/or drink intake.

Fun facts:
156 - the number of pounds of sugar the average person consumes in a year. That is equivalent to 31 5-pound bags for each of us.

.39 - the number of grams of sugar found in a 12-oz. can of soda.

20 - the amount of sugar, in teaspoons, that is in a typical bowl of breakfast cereal.

And we wonder why America is fat and diabetes is on the rise!
Put down the sugar people and pick up a banana!
